The purpose of this blog stands to inform the public of the various invasive species that currently plague the Lake Champlain basin with numerous ecological problems. Moreover, we will investigate some of the most prominent and destructive
species, and propose possible solutions for eradicating the effects of
invasive presence on the lake. We aim to delve into some of the more complex problems presented to the lake, along with how these problems came to be, i.e. how the species were introduced and imposed such ecological impacts on the native ecosystem. In order to do so, we will include summaries of various investigative articles, action proposals, research journals, and current community work, as well as an interview with prominent fisheries professor and researcher, Dr. Ellen Marsden.Ultimately, readers of our blog should be proficiently knowledgeable about which Lake Champlain species are invasive, the extent of their presence, and what they can personally do to address such problems.
